• Flynt & Fales:, . ³ In the History of The Doane Family and Their Descendents it is recorded that "Gideon was a goldsmith by trade; went to sea, fell overboard in the night and was drowned." No further proof has been found and it may be Gideon has been conflated with his father, who did die at sea.
