- Advertised in the Philadelphia Gazette, 1 Jan 1767, announcing that "Joseph Bruff, goldsmith, located at Talbot Court House. . . carries on the goldsmith's and jeweller's business as usual. . ."
- He signed a will on 12 Mar 1784. He specified that "all my handicraft tools and materials used in carrying on and prosecuting the silversmith's business" go to his eldest son Thomas with the proviso that should his younger son Joseph desire to follow the same trade, Thomas relinquish half the tools and goods in as good condition as when he received them.
Joseph married Mrs. Joseph Bruff about 1760.
