- Apprenticed about 1767 to Joseph W. Hopkins in Waterbury Middlesex MA
On 24 Nov 1772, his master published in the Connecticut Courant a lengthy description of Giles Richards, his apprentice, who had run away, and who had had the care of his shop for some time. A reward of ten dollars was offered. It is not known if Richards returned and finished his term, but he eventualy went to Boston, where he established a successful business manufacturing cotton and wool cards with his brother Mark and Amos Whittemore.
Giles married Sarah Adams on 6 Oct 1789 in Pepperell MA. (Sarah Adams was born on 26 Mar 1769 in Roxbury MA and died in 1836.)
