- Flynt & Fales:, . 3 According to Newport Historical Society Magazine, he had a house on Thames Street during the Revolutionary War. Carpenter, in Arts and Crafts of Newport, states that during the last quarter of 18th century he carried on business in both silver and clocks.

- Obituary printed in the Newport Mercury (Providence RI) on 3 Mar 1801 3
reported his death at 72 in Tiverton. It was also repeated in the Providence Gazette a week later. Many ads, however, running between 1801 and 1817, refer to a Capt. Walter Cornell, watchmaker and purchaser of old gold and silver. In addition, his confirmed mark has been found on coffin handled spoons that post date an 1801 death year.
Walter married Sarah Anthony on 4 Apr 1753. (Sarah Anthony was born on 4 Sep 1730 in Portsmouth RI and died on 21 Mar 1813 in Tiverton RI.)
