  • He was a partner circa 1854-1865 with Samuel E. Bailey in Springfield MA as BAILEY & BOWERS, with a shop in the Pynchon Bank Block. The New England Farmer for June 1854 included this ancedote: "A flock of sheep were passing down Main Street and when against Bailey & Bowers jewelry store the back wall which is covered with mirrors they looked in and sure enough saw another flock headed the same way. The sudden attempt to join them was attended with a bill for their owner for broken mirrors to the tune of something less than $25 which he probably found not an illusion."
