  General notes:

Merchant

  Events in his life were:

  • He worked circa 1835-1840 as a merchant in Gallipolis OH selling clocks, silver, and fancy goods from a peddler's cart. Evidently, he was not happy with his trade, writing to his brother-in-law Daniel Dyer in 1839 that "I think the business of selling clocks and spoons the most disagreable of any thing that a man can do. But for the sake of making a little money am led into it although I dislike it." He eventually moved on to Farmington CT and took up farming.

Erastus married Lucia Ann Dyer on 11 Sep 1839 in Canton CT. (Lucia Ann Dyer was born on 5 Oct 1818 in Canton CT and died on 31 Jul 1901 in Canton CT.)
