• He worked circa 1805-1810 as a pewtersmith in Newport RI
  It appears that he set aside his trade in 1810, like his brother Andrew. It has been suggested that they were bought out by their more well-established brother Thomas. Whatever the reason, he took up tinplate work, eventually establishing the largest tin-working shop in the town.

• He appeared on the 1850 census taken at Newport RI, listed as a tinman.
