- Flynt & Fales:, . 3 First began as an intinerate preacher in Conway NH in the early 1790s. Sometime around 1800, he set aside religion and took training as a silversmith, eventually settling c 1810 in Woodstock VT and opening a shop. After working there a short while, he was taken ill with cancer and travelled to Canada for treatment. He returned to Vermont, studied medicine under a Dr. Drew, and established a practice in South Woodstock. He moved to Boston to practice in 1816.
