- Apprenticed about 1783 to Timothy Symmes in Sussex NJ
- He worked circa 1790 as a silversmith in Cincinnati OH
According to Vinton's Symmes Memorial, he travelled to Ohio in 1789 with his uncle, John Cleves Symmes. He purchased a small plot in Cincinnati, built a workshop, and followed his trade for about a year. He then sold his works for $17 and left for North Bend to manage his uncle's farm. A spoon mold supposedly of his making was given to the Cincinnati Historical Society by his grandson William Symmes in 1899.
Celadon married Phebe Fitzrandolph on 14 Oct 1794 in North Bend OH. (Phebe Fitzrandolph was born about 1775 in New Jersey, died on 27 Jan 1822 in Butler OH and was buried in Fairfield OH.)
