- Flynt & Fales:, . 3 Revolutionary War soldier. Reported to have worked in Old Saybrook with David Bushnell who built the first American submarine, Turtle, which attempted to blow up a British frigate in New York Harbor in 1776. Pratt's mechanical ingenuity produced a machine for making ivory combs, for which he secured a patent. The resultant business prospered immediately and later became a large industry. He was Deacon of the Congregational Church in Saybrook.
