  Events in his life were:

  • He worked circa 1840 as a jeweler in Otis MA
    He studied law for a year, decided it wasn't the career for him, and went on the road selling watches, jewelry, silver and silver plate for more than 25 years. At one time he had more than two dozen teams selling goods for him across the eastern seaboard and into the mid-west. Soon after the Civil War, he sold off his wagons and became a successful lumber merchant.
