Henry Pelham
- Born: 14 Feb 1749, Boston MA
- Died: 1806, Kenmare River Kerry Ireland
General notes:
Engraver
Events in his life were:
- Boston MA, 29 Mar 1770: wrote to "Mr. Paul Revere," stating: "When I heard that you was cutting a plate of the late Murder, I thought it impossible as I knew you was not capable of doing it unless you copied it from mine, etc."
In another letter to Charles Pelham, written May 1, 1770, he says: "Inclosed I send you two of my prints of the late Massacre." No such prints by Pelham are known. But several water-color copies of the Massacre picture have been preserved, which are exactly the same in design as the Revere plate, but much superior to it in the details and in the expression of the faces. Some claim that these water-colors are the work of Henry Pelham, and are the "prints" referred to, and that Revere used one of these as the original of his plate, and hence the complaint of Pelham to Revere. 26
