  Events in his life were:

• He worked before 1790 as a clock and watchmaker in Nantucket MA
  He later studied law and was admitted to the bar. He was elected a member of the state senate 1809-1815 and in 1822 and, as a Republican, to the Fifteenth Congress and reelected to the Sixteenth Congress (March 4, 1817-March 3, 1821). After his last term, he returned to Nantucket and practised law.
