• He worked circa 1854 as a jeweler in New York City NY listed "from Greenville SC" in the city directory at 5 Wall Street, the store of his uncle Samuel W. Benedict. Given he had returned to Greenville by August, advertising a new stock of jewelry from New York, it may have been just a buying trip.
