  • Partnership: William L. Coles, in 1848-1852, in New York City NY. As COLES & VANCOURT, with a shop at 83 Duane Street.
  • He appeared on the census in 1850 in New York City NY. Listed as a silversmith.
  • He worked circa 1852-1854 as a silversmith in New York City NY
    At the end of 1854, he set aside his trade, bought a small tract of land in Mount Vernon and set up as a grocery, one of the first merchant in the newly established town. In 1867, he sold up his business to become a real estate speculator and made a sizeable fortune.
  • He appeared on the census in 1860 in Eastchester NY. Listed as a merchant.
