- He worked before 1830 as a silversmith and jeweler in Ogdensburg NY 18
- He worked circa 1831-1845 as a silversmith and jeweler in Staunton, Staunton, VA at least part of the time as HORACE SEELEY & Co. It is apparent, from extent records and court documents, that Seely's business was at or near failure by the mid 1840s. He was jailed for non-payment of his bonds and morgage notes in 1845. In the 1850 census, he is listed as a painter. On his Virginia death certificate, he is listed as a watchmaker. 18
