• Apprenticed: Zebulon Elliott, in 1832-1835, in Sag Harbor NY.
  Having completed his term, he had a change of heart and returned home to work in his father's cabinetry shop. Tiring of the life on land, he took to the sea, becoming a widely known whaling captain.
