  • Apprenticed on 4 Aug 1879-7 Jan 1884 to Gorham Company in Providence RI
    for a five year term. He was paid $3.00 for a 60 hour week and no overtime. By the end of his term, he was earning $7.00.
  • He appeared on the 1880 census taken at Providence RI, listed as a chaser's apprentice.
  • He worked on 5 Jan 1885-4 Jan 1886 as a journeyman silversmith in Providence RI for the Gorham Company.
  • He worked as a journeyman silversmith circa 1886-1895 for a variety of firms in Philadelphia, Boston, and finally Attleboro MA, where he joined C. M. ROBBINS & Co in 1893.
  • He was a partner in 1895-1898 with Herbert John Straker in North Attleboro MA as STRAKER BROTHERS, specializing in designing and making dies for hollowware, tool ware, and flatware.
  • He worked in 1898-1925 as a silversmith in Attleboro MA as superintendent of WATSON & NEWELL Co. He became vice-president of the firm in 1905.

Joseph married Florence Estelle Darling on 27 Sep 1888 in Providence RI. (Florence Estelle Darling was born on 3 Oct 1866 in Providence RI and died in 1953 in Attleboro MA.)
