- He worked in 1828-1850 as a silversmith in Savannah GA signing himself in advertisements as "M. Eastman; surviving partner and succesor to the late firm of J. Penfield & Co." His business apparently continued after his death and was eventually sold to George M. Griffin in 1852. 15
- Appointed in 1830 as City Constable in Savannah GA 15
- Appointed in 1844 as Keeper of the Savannah city clock in Savannah GA 3
