Clockmaker

  Events in his life were:

  • , . Connecticut clock-maker, associated first with Eli Terry and Silas Hoadley. In 1812, he began business on his own account and acquired a fortune. He was not only a good mechanic but a clever business man as well. His early clocks had wood works and were of the shelf type, then very popular. In 1853 he organized the Seth Thomas Clock Company and the works are still in operation. After his death in 1859 the town of Plymouth was divided and that portion where the works was situated was named Thomaston in his honor.

Seth married Philenda Tuttle on 20 Apr 1808. (Philenda Tuttle was born on 31 May 1789 in North Haven CT and died on 12 May 1810.)
