Events in his life were:
- Partnership: George L. Poor, in 1845-1859, in Selma AL. As G. L. & J. R. POOR. The firm was the southern outlet for silver produced by JAMES, BALL & POOR. In 1859 the shop was sold to Samuel Freeman Hobbs and the brothers returned to Boston.
- He appeared on the census in 1850 in Dallas AL. Listed as a silversmith.
