  • His obituary was published in the Syracuse Herald on 1 May 1923 in Syracuse NY. Calvin S. Ball, 91, retired jeweler and a pioneer in the business life of Syracuse, died at 3 o'clock this morning at his home, 316 Delaware Street.

    Calvin S. Ball conducted a jewelry business in Syracuse for 52 years prior to his retirement about 18 years ago. He was born at Pompey Hill on March 18, 1832 and came to Syracuse as an apprentice of the jewelry trade in 1848, the year in which Syracuse was incorporated as a city. He began business in partnership with Seymour S. Stone in 1858 continuing under the firm name of Stone & Ball, until 1867, when the partnership was dissolved and Mr. Ball conducted the business alone. He sold out to Stetson & Crouse in 1905.
